Reporting to Parents

The vision of The New Zealand Curriculum is for our young people to be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners. The purpose of reporting is to provide information about a child’s learning, progress and achievement that can then be used to support further learning. Communicating clear, dependable information about progress and achievement provides a basis for building a strong partnership between the child, the teacher and the child’s parents, family and whānau to support learning and improve student outcomes. The National Administration Guidelines (NAGs) set the requirements that schools must follow. How each school fulfils those requirements will be determined by the school in consultation with its community.

Face to Face Communication

  • We have a ‘no surprises’ mantra meaning students and whānau should have a clear understanding of where they are at and whether they require extra support or enrichment.
  • Students and whānau are invited to meet home base and hub teachers during our Getting Connected Meetings that take place during the first two days of the school year.
  • Teacher report against different elements of the curriculum every term.
  • A mid-year interview will take place sharing a new snapshot of data and clarifying rate of progress and achievement towards the expectations of the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Parents and whānau are able to meet with the teacher following the end-of-year report should they wish to do so.

Online Reporting – HERO

You can also connect to HERO here.

This programme allows us to report to you electronically, with a paper version being offered to those without access. This programme will track student’s achievement over time, allowing you to see their progress in core curriculum.

HERO is a web-based tool that focuses on reporting against the expectations of the New Zealand Curriculum.

A secure login will be provided to families. Office staff will set this up and provide support where required.

This programme will also allow us to enter data once and aggregate it for a range of purposes including reporting to the board and the preparation of variance data for the Ministry of Education.

Home bases for each new school year will be announced via this tool. When you log on securely you are able to the children in your child’s home base. Because this is a secure interface we are able to ensure privacy for our children.
